Halides

Halides are a chemical compound that contains a halogen element, such as fluorine, chlorine, bromine, or iodine. When halogen compounds, such as chlorine or bromine, are added to water, they’re known to react with organic matter to form disinfection by products (DBPs) such as trihalomethanes (THMs) or haloacetic Acids (HAAs). These known DBP’s can be harmful to human health if consumed in large amounts over a long period of time and high levels of halides in drinking water can also be an indicator of other pollutants or contaminants in the water supply.
